Bone Density Calibration Phantom
The hydroxyapatite (HA) content of the QRM-BDC allows a HU vs. HA calibration with respect to BMD evaluation of bones.
The QRM-BDC Phantom houses three 18 mm cylindrical inserts providing 0 (water), 100 and 200 mg HA / ccm. The Phantom can be directly placed under an object to evaluate the bone mineral density (BMD) of the object by CT.
As base material of the three inserts CTwater is used. CTwater is a solid water equivalent plastic offering the same X-ray attenuation properties as real water.
The shape of the phantom is slightly bended for a correct fit under the object.
The phantom has a standard length of 200 mm, but is available in different length, up to 700 mm. This is useful for objects measured with an extended scan field.
Other HA concentrations are also available on request. Please contact us to learn more.

European Spine Phantom
The standard for quality control in bone mineral densitometry by DXA and QCT.
The European Spine Phantom QRM-ESP-04 is now the standard for quality control - accuracy and reproducibility - in spinal BMD quantification for more than a decade [3]. Its design is closely anthropomorphic by its outer measures and internal lumbar vertebrae inserts such that standard patient protocols can be utilized, both in DXA and QCT.
The phantoms main body consists of water-equivalent resin, the three inserts contain varying amounts of calcium hydroxyapatite (HA) to cover the full physiological range of spongeous and cortical bone densities for all age groups.
QRM-ESP-04 allows to check reproducibility and accuracy with the following quantities:
- bone mineral content (BMC) in g for DXA
- bone mineral area density (BMD) in g/cm2 for DXA
- projected area (A) in cm2 for DXA
- trabecular and cortical bone mineral density in g/cm3 for QCT
- cortical thickness in mm for QCT
- positioning accuracy in QCT

QRM-DXA-Spine-QA-Phantom
A Phantom for Quality Assurance of DXA Bone Mineral Density Measurements of the Spine.
Designed on the basis of the well established European Spine Phantom (ESP) the QRM-DXA-Spine-QA-Phantom incorporates a simplified and more cost effective design of the vertebrae specifically developed for quality assurance (QA) and stability monitoring of Dual X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) devices.
The complex vertebrae of the ESP are replaced by a more dedicated shape explicitly adapted to the needs of a DXA QA-Phantom.
With the QRM-DXA-Spine-QA-Phantom, areal Bone Mineral Density (aBMD) can be easily determined in AP and lateral projections.
Other HA densities of the vertebra are available upon request.
Benefits:
- bone mineral content (BMC) in g
- bone mineral areal density (BMD) in g/cm2 for DXA AP and lateral projections
- projected area (A) in cm2
